Your investment in our mission empowers us to close the early learning gap in rural Kenya.

“JENGA”.It’s one of the things we do.

JENGA

Did you know that “Jenga” is derived from the Swahili word “Kujenga”, which means “to build”?

Jenga means "to build" in Swahili. It has always been the heartbeat of what we do at Pendo.

In January 2026, the Pendo Child & Family Development Hub opened its doors in Ruiru, with capacity for 700 children, a space built with intention and made possible by the generosity of supporters who believed in this community long before these walls existed. The Hub brings together our elementary school, computer lab, teacher training centre, wellness centre, and shared community space, giving every family everything they need in one place.

For years, demand exceeded what our classrooms could hold. This building is the answer that the community, donors, and our team built together.

Eat, Grow, Study! It’s What We Do.

Providing nutritious meals to learners remains a foundational element of our holistic approach to education.

Healthy School Meals

A nourished body can support a growing mind. That is why we provide two healthy meals a day. We source fresh food directly from our local farmers. Our on-site chef makes healthy, nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks which keep children in school and help them concentrate and learn effectively.

Rising food costs have hit grocery stores, households, and schools, too. We are battling soaring inflation and supply chain disruptions, forcing us to serve more limited menus. Almost every food item that we ordered at Pendo School-Kenya for the coming school year costs significantly more than it did previously!

Your donation will enable us to continue bringing home-grown, nutritious meals to our learners.

Play is Every Child’s right. We protect it.

Play Is The Work Of The Child

Play is fundamental, not optional. Play is every child’s right, and we believe this right should be protected.

The importance of schools as environments for play cannot be overstated. For many children, the school playground is the only open, accessible space available to them on a regular basis. Research has shown that play contributes to a child's healthy development, including building physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills. These competencies lead to increased confidence and equip children with the flexibility to face future challenges.

Through your generous donations, we have been able to acquire a small piece of land near Pendo School in Kenya, designated for a play area. The ground is currently bare and we are seeking donations to help develop this space into a welcoming playground for the children of Pendo School, as well as all children neighbouring our school. Your generous donations towards this cause will give children an opportunity to exercise their Right to Play.

Pick Up And Drop Off. It’s one of the things we do.

Safe And Reliable Transportation

For our young learners to achieve a proper early childhood education, they need a safe and reliable way to and from school.

Many children in rural communities live very far from the nearest school. The lack of consistent school transport forces learners to wake up in the wee hours of the morning, walk for miles, or take unreliable public buses or motorbike taxis to school. These options are not always safe and are not economically practicable for most parents. Safe and reliable school transport is an integral part of a child’s education. Commuting to and from school need not be a cause for fear.

At Pendo School-Kenya we are aware of this challenge. Every day, we provide convenient and efficient transportation for our learners to get to and from school. However, our old repurposed school vans are now falling apart and becoming unroadworthy. Your donations will help us purchase more reliable school vans for our transport program. The school vans will not only allow us to reach more communities, but will give learners and teachers new opportunities for field trips, sporting events, and more.
